What is rate negotiation?
Some employing companies allow locums to propose a different rate for a shift.
Rate negotiation is only available where the employing company has enabled it. If negotiation is not available for a shift, you may only see options such as Apply or Book Now.
A negotiation is also treated as an application. If your proposed rate is accepted, you’ll be automatically booked into the shift at the agreed rate.
Find negotiable shifts
Open the Locate a Locum app.
Tap the Search icon in the main navigation.
Tap the Negotiable quick filter.
Browse the available negotiable shifts.
Tap a shift card to open the Shift details screen.
Submit a proposed rate
On the Shift details screen, tap Negotiate.
Enter your New Proposed Rate.
Add a reason for negotiation if needed.
Tap Negotiate to submit.
Your negotiation will be sent to the employing company for review.
After you submit
You can view active negotiations in My Shifts → Shifts → In Negotiation.
The employing company can:
accept your proposed rate;
reject your proposed rate;
send a counter offer; or
send a final offer.
You’ll receive updates based on your notification preferences.
If your proposed rate is accepted
If the employing company accepts your proposed rate, you’ll be automatically booked into the shift at the agreed rate.
The shift will appear in My Shifts → Booked and in the calendar view within My Shifts.
Once booked, the employing company’s cancellation policy applies.
If you receive a counter offer
If the employing company sends a counter offer:
Go to My Shifts → Shifts → In Negotiation.
Tap the shift card you want to view.
Tap View Negotiation.
Choose one of the available actions:
Accept offer — accept the rate and become automatically booked into the shift.
Renegotiate — enter a new proposed rate and submit it for employer review.
Withdraw from negotiation — withdraw from the negotiation and remove your application.
If you send a counter offer, the employing company will need to review it before the shift can be confirmed.
If you receive a final offer
If the employing company marks their counter offer as a final offer, you will not be able to send another counter offer.
You can either:
tap Accept Final Offer to accept the rate and become automatically booked into the shift; or
tap Withdraw from negotiation to withdraw from the negotiation.
Withdraw from negotiation
You can withdraw from a negotiation before it has been accepted.
Withdrawing removes your negotiation/application for that shift. It is different from cancelling a confirmed booking.
If your negotiation is unsuccessful
If your negotiation is rejected, you’ll receive an update based on your notification preferences.
A negotiation may also be unsuccessful if another locum books the shift before your negotiation is accepted.
Unsuccessful negotiations can be viewed in My Shifts → Shifts → Unsuccessful.

Go to My Shifts → Shifts → In Negotiation.
What happens if my proposed rate is accepted?

Why can’t I send another counter offer?
