The Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme is a background checking system for individuals who work with children and vulnerable adults in Scotland. It aims to prevent unsuitable people from gaining access to these groups through their work.

If you are a locum working in Scotland, you will likely need to be a member of the PVG Scheme.

How to Apply for a PVG

Through our partnership with Civil and Corporate, we can manage the PVG application process on your behalf. There are two options:

  1. Full PVG Scheme Membership: For those who are not currently members of the scheme. The cost is £72.

  2. PVG Scheme Update: For those who are already members and need an updated record for our platform. The cost is £31.

Application Process

  1. Submit Information: Email the following details to compliance@locatealocum.com to start your application:

    • Your address history for the last five years.

    • Your town and country of birth.

    • A copy of the photographic page of your passport (and biometric residence permit if applicable).

    • Your mother's maiden name.

  2. Complete Application: You will then receive an email from Civil & Corporate to complete the PVG Application form, and once completed, Locate a Locum will review and submit.

  3. Make Payment: After this has been submitted, you will then receive an email from Civil & Corporate in regards to making payment.

Your PVG certificate is usually received within 1-4 weeks, but it often takes around 10 days.
