Payroll Categories

A complete guide on how to make edits to the ‘Payroll Categories’ section of the LAL platform.

Steps

1. Access Payroll Categories

  • Click the Cog icon in the top-right corner of the screen.

  • From the dropdown menu, select Payroll Categories.


2. Create a Payroll Category

  1. On the Payroll Categories page, click the green Add button.

  2. In the modal, populate the following fields:

  • Key → free text.

  • Display Name → free text.

  • External Reference → free text.

  • Rate → free text or use arrows to adjust.

  • Hours Calculation Type → select from the dropdown menu.

3. (Optional) Set the category as the default shift category or default overtime category by checking the relevant box.

  • Only one default shift and one default overtime category can exist per company.

4. (Optional) Add further details in the Description text box.

5. Click the green Save button to create the payroll category.


3. Edit a Payroll Category

  • In the Actions column, click the Cog icon beside the payroll category you want to edit.

  • Update the fields as required and click Save to confirm.


4. Delete a Payroll Category

  • In the Actions column, click the Bin icon beside the payroll category you want to remove.

  • Confirm deletion in the modal that appears.

Note: Deleting makes the category inactive. It can be restored.


5) Restore a Payroll Category

  1. On the Payroll Categories page, tick Show inactive.

  2. In Actions for the inactive category, click Restore icon.

  3. Confirm by clicking Yes when prompted.


Additional Information

  • Only one default shift category and one default overtime category can be set at any time.

  • Inactive (deleted) categories remain hidden until Show inactive is checked; they can then be restored.

  • Changing a default may require unsetting the current default first.


Troubleshooting

  • I can’t find a category I deleted: Tick Show inactive to reveal inactive categories, then use Restore in the Actions column.

  • I can’t add or edit payroll categories: You may not have permission. Contact your company admin to grant access.
